Janani-An Ode (Celebrating the Spirit of Mother’s Day)

Janani – An Ode

MA…AMMA…MAMMA…AMMI…MUMMY…MOM…MUM

The very first word which a child learns to say.

And probably the only word which sounds so similar across cultures.

A women’s journey of motherhood starts with her child, her child is the centre of her Universe – her Sun, her moon, her shining Star.

Her world revolves around the children, and ends right there.

It is true that – A mother is born along with you.

She becomes a mother, the moment you take your first breath.

She gives up on her sleep so you can have a good night.

She lets go off her dreams so you can follow yours.

She puts on a smile so you can forget your bad days.

She chains herself to you while teaching you to be free.

She buys you new clothes while being content with that old saree.

She gives you the last morsel of food even if she goes to bed empty stomach.

That is the unconditional love of a mother towards her children.

All these sacrifices which she makes very willingly and happily.

She laughs with you, she cries with you.

She nourishes you, she nurtures you.

She disciplines you, she encourages you.

She prays with you, and she prays for you.

She shields you, while preparing you to face the world.

Her happiness depends on you, but she teaches you to become independent.

She helps you identify your potential so you can reach for the stars.

She is a child’s first Guru, first friend, first guide, first mentor, first Hero.

The most selfless person in the world is a mother…a Janani.

She who personifies grace, love, kindness and humility.

Putlibai Gandhi…Nancy Hanks Lincoln…Ashiamma Jainulabiddin were such mothers who raised their children with all the dedication.

They were embodiment of love and care who gave the world great human beings and leaders who we know today as Mahatma Gandhi…Abraham Lincoln…APJ Abdul Kalam.

And every mother does the same.

She puts in all her effort and energy to ensure her child’s intellectual & emotional growth and well-being.

It is our duty now to recognize and care for the mothers around us.

Especially those who are left to be by themselves in their twilight years.

Those whose old eyes crave to see their loved ones.

Whose ears strain to hear a familiar laughter.

Whose hands long to bless a cherished soul.

Let us give ode to every mother there is….

Let us give ode to the most beautiful bond in the world – that of a mother and child.

Let us give her the love and respect she deserves…

Let us stop the mothers from getting old before time…

And in the words of Munawwar Rana

“ Khud ko is bheed mein tanha nahi hone denge,

Maa tujhe hum abhi boodha nahi hone denge”

Celebrate her…Celebrate her sacrifices….Celebrate her smiles & her sorrows….

Celebrate every Janani
